TAR Syndrome (Thrombocytopenia-Absent Radius Syndrome) is a rare genetic condition characterized by:
- Missing or underdeveloped radius bones in the forearms
- Upper limb and hand differences
- Possible lower limb involvement
- Growth and skeletal abnormalities
- Low platelet counts, especially during infancy
For children with TAR Syndrome, Shriners may provide:
- Comprehensive orthopedic evaluations
- Hand and upper-extremity surgery
- Limb reconstruction procedures
- Limb lengthening when appropriate
- Custom braces and adaptive devices
- Physical therapy
- Occupational therapy
- Prosthetic services when needed
